Developed by the University of Arkansas in 1983, Arapaho has thornless canes to 6 feet tall with an erect growth habit, early ripening, and has excellent fruit flavor and firmness. Canes typically do not need to be staked or trellised. Fruits begin ripening in late May to early June and are harvested for about 21 days. The flavor is sweet and mildly subacid. Fruit flavor is like that of the variety Navaho, but Arapaho has a prominent aroma reminiscent of wild blackberries. Cold hardiness is to about -10F degrees. Fruit production per plant can be as high as 10lbs in 2 years with proper fertilizing and watering.
